The Department of Health and Human Services will name Stacy Sanders as its new chief competition officer, the agency announced Monday. The new position was recently created as part of an administration crackdown on corporate greed in health care.

“We know that increased competition in the marketplace is a good deal for the American people,” Sanders said in a statement. “I look forward to supporting the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to increase competition in health care and lower costs, helping build on steps the Administration has already taken as well as identify opportunities to further spur innovation.”

As chief competition officer, Sanders will look for ways the health department can promote competition in health care markets. She will also work with the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice to develop new policy initiatives to address consolidation, and coordinate data-sharing and reciprocal training programs with the other two agencies. The FTC and DOJ are also getting new health care counsel positions to lead these efforts, the administration announced in December.
